In October 2025 Whitethorn suffered a blow to its foundations in a similar way as the demolition of the East Wing of the White House by Donald Trump. Six of our established members left en masse for a variety of reasons. This meant we lost 4 experienced dancers and 2 musicians. The remaining members made the decision to continue and try to rebuild. Perhaps not on the scale of a ballroom at the White House but to keep going as best we can.
Our first aim is to try to improve recruitment. We are doing this in several ways. We have opened up our side to include men who would like to dance. Accordingly we have altered the kit to accommodate this and also to give more choice to anyone else wishing to join who may have been put off by skirts and clogs.
We are on a major recruitment drive and are putting our leaflets in as many places as we can. We are also updating our profiles on social media. We are not being too ambitious but want to still be seen so we are aiming to dance out as many times as we have enough dancers to make up a set. At the moment our best is 6 dancers so our current repertoire reflects this.
We can only do what we can do but if there are any would be dancers or musicians out there who would like to join us rebuilding Whitethorn then please get in touch.
